New cooperation

New cooperation in the field of alternative energy sources

Hilgenberg joined a research project dealing with the high-pressure storage of gases. The project deals with the implementation of a patent that allows the efficient storage of gases under high pressures in fine glass capillary arrays. It enables a completely new way of storaging energy. This way has a high capacity, low weight and high reliability.

The project is funded by the Clean Energy Company Ltd., the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing and Hilgenberg GmbH.

The challenge for Hilgenberg is the provision of suitable glass structures for the storage of Hydrogen, which again transduces electricity in a fuel cell. Initial studies on the pressure resistance of glass capillary arrays are completed and very promising. On a simple fuel cell car, the principle has already been successfully presented.

In the meantime, more complex arrays of glass are in a testing phase. They show longer maturities and significantly greater amounts of energy can be provided.
